More People?

A few weeks ago, I participated in my first Instagram meetup here in San Francisco. It was a lot of fun and I met some great people. For me, photography is often a solitary endeavor (unless I drag my sister along!) so it was cool to walk around taking photos with people who share similar interests. It also got me thinking about adding more people into my photography, which is a bit crazy for a person who claims to shoot anything but people! But I think if I do start including more people, it won’t be your typical portraits – it will probably be more like including people to show scale or because they add an interesting element to the photo. So here’s the first photo as part of that concept. (And, funny enough, really the only -decent- photo I took of a person at the meetup!)

Hi there
Loved your post. But I have to say i loved the words more than photograph even though it does tell a story :) As someone who writes and tries to photographs whatever catches her fancy agreed it is a solitary endeavour but like you i have found it helps to connect with a bunch of people who are passionate, who can not only critique and give pointers, but more than that let us belong.
BTW I also used to shoot anything people but of late I have started to capture the moods and movements of people and have found it quite revealing; what is revealed in the picture and what I observe and what it brings out in me and that is powerful. What has been your perspective?

Wave Art

I’ve wanted to try some slow shutter ocean wave shots for a while but I don’t have any ND filters for my Olympus, which makes it basically impossible to shoot what I’m imagining when the sun is out. So instead, I played around in Lightroom to create some painting-like wave art instead!
