We found them like this: still, delicate, and gone.

Common Yellowthroat
Every year, during spring and fall migration, over a billion birds die from building collisions – they’re disoriented by lights at night or confused by reflections that look no different from the actual sky. This is the reality of bird migration in our human landscapes.

There are ways to help!
- Turn off unnecessary lights at night, especially during migration season
- Close blinds or use shades after dark
- Make your windows bird-safe (check out Feather Friendly)
- Support legislation that makes buildings safer for wildlife
- Support orgs that are working to keep birds safe (like Jersey City Birds and NYC Bird Alliance)
It doesn’t get easier to witness these tiny miracles who work so hard and travel so far every year meet their untimely deaths thanks to us. But sharing the reality is how we can start to change it.
