While birding at the Jersey City Reservoir recently, I saw a bright red object streak across the sky out the corner of my eye. I wanted it to be a tanager – it was way too bright to be a cardinal, but I hadn’t gotten a great glimpse. I stared intensely at the tree I thought it had landed in but there was nothing.
I waited a little bit longer and this gorgeous cutie finally popped his head out! Still can’t believe that we get to see these amazing birds in the middle of a city like Jersey City, and on Central Ave, no less!
